Here's some of what happened during the 2021 event.
Details for 2022 are here
On arrival please register at the Reception and Event Desk in the Manor House Entrance Hall. There you will be given you lanyard and name badge (please wear throughout the event) and given details of your room if you have booked for accommodation on-site.
At the event desk you can find out what's happening throughout the event, register to take part in games and activities, buy charity raffle tickets and collect or leave items for the Bring and Buy.
There are many different places to play a wide variety of games throughout the 95 hours of A Gamers Gaming Getaway. We encourage everyone to welcome others and meet new people over games. There will be 'Players Wanted' signs available and the opportunity to publicise games in advance via our Discord Server and/or the event desk. Please feel free to bring your own games or borrow some from our games library.
Most open gaming will take place in The Chivalry and Sorcery Group Room kindly sponsored by Britannia Game Designs who will be providing demos during the event of Chivalry and Sorcery which is a role playing game using a realisitic medieval background for its setting.
The Games Library, Playtesting, Traders and Bar will also be in this room.
We will be offering at least three Escape Games designed by Time Games each lasting about an hour:
'The Case of the Rocket Man': an escape game in a box
'Abducted': an escape game in a box
'Gone Viral': An escape room involving live roleplay with a theme about tackling a deadly pandemic...
TTRPGs at the event will take place in the Stable Block. These will generally be short scenarios lasting up to 3-4 hours, although some scenarios may be linked.
Please contact Alan if you would like to run one.
Allan Wroe of Imaginarium Gaming will be running several scenarios from The Secret Files of Section D. The ideal group size is 4-6 players.
This is a tabletop roleplaying game powered by the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition rules. Players take on the roles of agents working for the British Secret Intelligence Service, specifically Section D, which was established in early 1938. Section D goes on to be one of the building blocks of the Special Operations Executive.
Here's an introductory video to give a feel for the setting.
Conan Daly of Hexheart Games will be running some taster sessions of the Orion Sphere LRP Starship Bridge Simulator. Each session can handle 5-8 people. Participants will need to bring your own Windows laptops.
A Gamers Gaming Getaway is an opportunity to run or play in short freeform, chamber and black box LARPs. These will not require costume, although if they might be enhanced with costume we'll let you know in advance.
There are various locations at the site which could be used for freeform LARPs - if you would like to run one please let us know so we can schedule it in the most appropriate venue.
Arsenic & Lies is a 3 hour larp designed by Karolina Soltys for 5-10 players inspired by Downton Abbey and Agatha Christie novels. Rather than being a classical whodunnit, it focuses on the emotions, relationships and secrets of the characters involved: solving the murder might be less important to the characters than pursuing their clandestine affairs, arranging marriages of convenience or blackmailing their enemies.
It is set on New Year's Eve 1919 - please feel free to wear 1920s costume if you wish, although this is not required.
Heroquest will be running two 3-hour outdoor adventures at the event. These are designed to be tasters suitable for those who have never live roleplayed before or are unfamiliar with Heroquest's system. There will be costume and weapons available to borrow for those who do not have their own.
There will be an in-character tavern run by Herofest and Heroquest on Saturday evening set in the LARP fantasy world of Orin Rakatha. This will be an opportunity to play suitable looking games whilst in costume and to interact in-character. You do not need to know anything about Orin Rakatha to participate and there will be some costume available to borrow for those who do not have their own.
Various wargames and skirmish games will be run over the weekend. These include:
- The Warlord and the World's Pain: set in 1631 in the Europe of the Thirty Years War using a variant of the Sharp Practice rules;
- The Crooked Cross and Raven: A Viking period skirmish game using Saga which is two parts wargame and one part boardgame. Games last about an hour and the rules are quick to pick up;
- A Pirates Treasure Skirmish Game.
Most wargaming will take place in the Main Room of the Manor House.
Each evening there will be a game of Texas Hold 'Em Poker (playing for chips not real money) in the Main Room of the Manor House.
Our gaming discussion seminars will focus on topics related to games and the hobby/industry. For instance Liz Cable, the Founder Time Games and author Unlocking the Potential of Puzzle-based learning, will give a talk on European Escape Games.
Games discussions will talk place in the Manor House lounge. If you would like to give a talk or lead a discussion please contact the organisers and we will seek to schedule it into the programme.
There will be opportunities to playtest games throughout the event in the Chivalry & Sorcery Group Room. Please let Dave know if you're a games designer who would like to playtest or demo games at the event.
We hope to run a Four Elements by Physical Gaming Championship Tournament during the event.
Please let the organisers know if you'd like to run your own championships or tournaments and we will seek to facilitate that for you.
There will be a small number of traders and exhibitors at the event in the Chivalry & Sorcery Group room, including Brittannia Games Design, Stuff By Bez, Get Your Game On and Medlock Armoury.
There is no charge to trade or exhibit although we do ask for a contribution to our charity raffle. Please contact Dave if you would like an exhibitors table.
The Bring and Buy will operate on a DIY basis. Items can be advertised in advance via the Discord Server or brought along on the day and displayed in the Manor House Entrance Hall with the seller's contact details and price. Buyers should contact the seller to pay them direct.
We ask that both buyers and sellers each make a contribution of 10% of the sale price (minimum £1) to the charities which A Gamers' Gaming Getaway is supporting.
We will be running a charity quiz on the Friday evening and a charity raffle on the Saturday evening with all proceeds supporting our chosen good causes. These will happen in the Chivalry & Sorcery Group Room.
See opposite for just some of the raffle prizes very generously donated by our supporters and sponsors.
A Gamers' Gaming Getaway is all about having fun, meeting people and learning about games. Please contact the organisers if there is a game or activity which you would like to run at the event which you think would contribute to this.
We hope everyone will have a wonderful time at the event and look forward to seeing you there.
In the meantime,
here's a little puzzle game about symbolic meanings hidden within our logo.
